Marcia Payne retired from a distinguished 38-year federal career in aviation. Starting her career with the National Transportation Safety as an Air Safety Investigator and retiring in 2011 as an executive in the Federal Aviation Administration, Flight Standards Service.
After moving to Virginia from Oklahoma, Marcia and her husband Joe started attending Warrenton UMC in late 1998 and immediately got involved in the life of the church. She became a greeter, lay reader, usher, sang in the Chancel Choir and the Living Christmas Tree. Later, Marcia taught Bible study and adult Sunday school classes, volunteered at Vacation Bible School and lead the Primetimers (a senior group).
After retirement, Marcia wanted to do even more volunteer work. She volunteered at The Salvation Army serving on their Advisory Board for 3 years, helping with Angel Tree and leading their annual fund raising efforts for the Virginia Piedmont. Prior to the pandemic, she volunteered as a “Cuddler” caring for drug addicted newborn babies at Fauquier Hospital. Marcia and her husband are known as “Team Rascal” at the local hospital and nursing care facilities bringing comfort and smiles to patients with their pet therapy dog, Rascal.
In the last 8 years, Marcia served in numerous leadership positions at Warrenton UMC to include Nominations and Leadership Development, Organ Capital Campaign, served 6 years on the Staff Parish Relations Committee and chair of the Leadership Team.
Marcia, Joe and Rascal reside in Warrenton, Virginia.
